The Kings Experience
The importance of the transition from KS2 to KS3 cannot be underestimated. We plan this process in close partnership with our feeder primary schools to ensure that students feel fully prepared, emotionally, socially and academically for the exciting challenge ahead. We begin this process with our regular presence at our partner primary schools through KS2 and with many opportunities for our primary students and parents to visit Kings.
Kings College has an extensive and thorough induction programme for new students. Our transition team visits every primary school and has meetings with all the relevant staff, including Year 6 teachers, SENCo and HSLW. Our transition staff also meet with all the students and not only find out information about them but also answer any questions they have before they arrive at Kings. We run extra transition support sessions, liaising with primary school about who they feel would benefit from some extra support. These sessions are run by our HSLW and Eikon Youth worker.  They include extra tours and getting to know about the transition into secondary school.
All our new children then spend two days with us in July, when they are formally introduced to our school community. The aim of these days are for students to meet the rest of their year group and also to experience 2 days at secondary school life before the summer, so they can be fully prepared for their start in September. This is followed by a parent meeting in the summer term at which parents and students are given the opportunity to meet 1:1 with a member of senior staff. At the start of the Autumn Term, all Year 7 students participate in a comprehensive induction programme which continues up to the half term break.
“Amy really enjoyed her day yesterday at Kings. She came home full of everything she had learnt during the day and said how much fun she had had. I would like to thank the staff for organising such great orientation days”
