A key area for students when considering their future will be the careers options available. We believe it is important to ensure every student has the chance to learn more about a wide variety of employability options before they leave secondary school.

As a result our careers aim is ‘To ensure all students will be fully equipped with the knowledge and life skills required to choose, secure and succeed in positive future destinations.’

At the heart of our approach are three key questions designed to get students truly thinking.

  • What do they want to achieve over their lifetime?
  • What are they going to do when they leave Kings to help them get there?
  • What can they start doing now to make sure this can happen?

Our approach is cross-curricular with opportunities to explore different careers within departments, through visiting speakers, business links, work experience, a comprehensive PSHE programme and our ‘Finding Our Futures’ programme. Students benefit from the strong links we have with the Holiday Inn, Guildford Shakespeare Company, RHS Wisley and the University of Surrey.

Careers Advice

We believe that receiving individual and accurate advice from a certified Careers Advisor is integral to students making informed decisions about their future career pathways. As such, all students will have the opportunity to meet one-to-one with a Careers Advisor during their time at Kings. This is a great opportunity for students to discuss their likes, talents and the options available to them after they leave Kings.

Measuring Impact

We measure the impact of our Careers Programme in a variety of ways, from tracking Year 11 leavers’ destination data to seeking the opinions of students and parents. We also meticulously track the careers interactions students receive over the course of their time at Kings to ensure all students receive a breadth and depth of meaningful experiences.

Labour Market Information (LMI)

Labour Market Information (LMI) is up-to-date information about the world of work and the current job market. LMI can include information like salaries, skills and qualifications needed, entry routes into particular careers and the industries that operate in certain locations. Importantly for young people, LMI also includes what the future demand for jobs in a particular sector might be.

Careerometer Widget

The Careerometer can be used to explore and compare key information about occupations, help you learn about different occupations and identify potential careers. It provides access to a selection of UK headline data relating to pay, weekly hours of work and future employment prospects for different occupations, as well as description of the occupation. Simply type in the title of the job you are interested in and the widget provides a series of options from which you can select the most relevant to you. You can then look up another two occupations and compare. You can also select ‘display the UK average’ and compare the information with the occupation you have selected.
