Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner

My name is Brenda Sweeney, and I work Monday to Friday, based at King’s full time. Referrals can be made through teaching staff refer pupils to me via the Pastoral Leads

Through my role as a Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner, I support pupils with low to moderate mental health and wellbeing difficulties. Typically, these can include anxiety, stress, low mood, emotional regulation, self-esteem and anger. Our 1 to 1 sessions generally last for 6 weeks and include self-help strategies based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy principles.

Throughout our support sessions I encourage young people to work towards a wellbeing goal of their choosing. This might be to be more self-confident or less angry in certain situations. I encourage young people to challenge negative thoughts and focus on their strengths and abilities. Our sessions are confidential but if an individual would like me to talk to teachers or parents on their behalf then I am happy to do so. I hope to build trusting relationships with pupils and assure them that they can come to me to discuss any issues even after our 6 weeks interventions have ended.
